All things matcha: Why you should drink more matcha green tea

Matcha green tea: With an abundance of health benefits, delicious taste and colourful green tone, it is quickly becoming one of our favourite drinks. In this article, we will share the secrets of the green tea powder, along with our favourite recipe for you to try at home.

What is matcha?

So, how is matcha different from regular green tea? Like green tea, matcha comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. However, it’s grown differently and has a unique nutrient profile. Grown in Japan, young green tea leaves are ground into powder form to make matcha. This powder is then whisked into hot water, whereas green tea is generally infused or steeped into hot water and then removed. It is because the tea leaves remain in the beverage, that Matcha boasts so many great benefits!

Why is matcha good for you?

Matcha is loaded with antioxidants called catechins, which help to protect against free radicals. This means that the powerful ingredient may protect against chronic disease, increase bone density and has anti-aging properties.

Matcha green tea has been shown to escalate your metabolic rate and increase energy expenditure, which may result in enhanced fat burning and weight loss. The drink may also help to reduce stress, as amino acid L-Theanine is found in matcha powder. In addition, most people do not feel a ‘caffeine crash’ that is often linked to hot beverages such as coffee, when drinking matcha.
